Exhibitors Spotlight - Jenny Owens Photography

We are featuring some of our exhibitors in the lead up to our wedding fair. Today we would like to introduce Jenny Owens, a Hampshire and New Forest based photographer offering beautiful film and documentary photography. We caught with Jenny to ask her a few questions about her work and enjoyments.

How did you come up with your business idea?

I am quite a nostalgic person and I love shooting with all the old fashioned film cameras. I still carry and shoot with 50 and 60 year old cameras and I've made a conscious decision to incorporate film into my wedding photography work. There's still nothing quite like the old fashioned grain of real film, and just the process of shooting with these cameras allow me to slow down, anticipate and appreciate those important moments of the wedding day.

Whats the best thing about working for yourself?

I can manage my own time which means I can work around the needs of my family. For the most part it means I can go to those school events, and although most weddings happen at the weekend, I try to make sure I am not working the entire weekend, and still enjoy some family time. On the flip-side, it is difficult to stop working even during my “free” time for example, in the evenings which is something I need to improve on.

English wedding or go abroad?

English wedding! Ok, so the weather can be hit or miss but it was important to us to have as many of our friends and family with us on the day so there was no question of not having it locally. Hampshire is a beautiful place and there are so many options now of different venues and suppliers, if I were getting married now, I would have such fun planning a wedding.

DJ or band?

Both? If I could only have one, then band as my husband and I both love live music.

Wedding Cake or Wedding Cocktails?

It'll have to be cake. :)

What one piece of advise would you give to a bride on her wedding day?

I know it's difficult to do but try not to stress too much about the little things and just focus on the most important part of the day which is getting married to your other half!

If you would like to see Jenny's recent portfolio and speak to her about your big day, come to meet her on Sunday 8th June at The Nostalgic Wedding Fair, Guildhall Winchester, Hampshire.
